Drug pricing advocates shame Gilead Sciences

Thirty countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe banded together in solidarity last month by launching the "30 Days, 30 Countries" campaign – 30 consecutive days of advocacy against #GreedyGilead’s high drug prices, blocking access to generic medicines via its patent monopolies, and its overall shameful profiteering.

"Our teams worldwide took to the streets, airwaves, and social media platforms to hold Gilead accountable for arbitrarily choosing who lives and who dies due to its greed that blocks access to affordable medicines for deadly but treatable diseases, including HIV and hepatitis C," said Guillermina Alaniz, AHF Director of Global Advocacy and Policy.

The '30 Days, 30 Countries' campaign has shown Gilead that it cannot hide from a united global front that demands the pharma giant put lives before profit by sharing its patents and lowering the prices on its lifesaving medicines," added Alaniz.

The participating teams took turns throughout June conducting activations that included picketing Gilead offices, publishing op-ed articles in local, national, and international outlets, holding informative TV, radio, and Twitter Spaces broadcasts, and bombarding Gilead on social media with campaign slogans and messaging.

Teams also held press conferences and met with journalists and stakeholders to bring more awareness of pharma greed to local communities and spread the #GreedyGilead message far and wide.
