Community Voices Lead Health Awareness in Uganda

CPV focused on high-risk areas like Kamwokya, a densely populated urban community with limited access to health education.

In response to the rising cases of mpox and Ebola, AHF Uganda mobilized its Community Power Voices (CPV) initiative to raise awareness and strengthen prevention efforts at the grassroots level. Through door-to-door engagements, small group discussions, and the distribution of educational materials, CPV worked to ensure that vital health information reached community members, especially those most at risk.

Advocates collaborated closely with local leaders and health workers to ensure that all information shared was accurate and aligned with national health guidelines.

Beyond addressing mpox and Ebola, CPV also promoted AHF Kitante Wellness Center's services, encouraging local residents to take charge of their health through free HIV and other STI screenings.

Flyers were posted throughout the community with the signs and symptoms of mpox and Ebola.

AHF Uganda and other country teams in Africa are fostering long-term impact through the CPV program, which amplifies the community's role in advocacy by empowering local advocates to bridge the gap between healthcare services and the community.

Festival-themed Billboard Promotes Free STD Testing

The following article features a discussion with AHF's Vice President of Marketing on the bold STD testing billboard campaign launched during the world famous Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California with KESQ TV News

See the inspiration and message behind the eye-catching STD testing billboard in the video above.

A new billboard along a major roadway leading to the festival is catching drivers’ attention with the words “Bad Romance?”

The music festival-themed ad, created by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, promotes free STD testing with the URL freeSTDcheck.org.

“It’s Coachella. We know people are going to hook up,” said Jason Farmer, AHF’s Vice President of Marketing. "We want to make sure that we put these messages out to the youth – the people that are going to be at these type of festivals and let them know that if they do hook up and they're unprotected, to go and get tested."

This isn’t AHF’s first bold campaign. Last year, Coachella officials demanded they remove a similar billboard, “Catch More than Vibes?", but AHF refused.

“We hope there are no bad romances during this year’s festival weekends, and we hope everyone who chooses to partner up practices safer sex,” added Michael Weinstein, AHF President and Co-founder. “But if anyone does need STD testing services, we want people to know ours are easily located, nonjudgmental and free.”

AHF Laos joined over 500 government and health officials at the National Health Meeting, where the team introduced its HIV/AIDS programs to a broader audience—including representatives from regions and sectors previously unfamiliar with AHF’s work.

As the only NGO in attendance, AHF Laos showcased its core services—including testing, client support, and education initiatives—highlighting the impact of its efforts since the program's launch in 2018. The event helped raise national awareness of AHF’s contributions and services to HIV/AIDS control in Laos.
